12th (& final) Handmade Gift Idea for Christmas brought to us by Heather

Decorating with a canvas can be a fun and fairly simple way to add a beautiful touch to your holidays.
Begin with a plain white canvas in your preferred size and an assortment of mists and spritzs. I used Maya Mists and Smooch Spritz for my canvas.

Experiment with the colours until you have an effect that you are satisfied with.

The next step is to decorate your canvas in whatever manner you would like. I wanted to create a Merry Christmas canvas so I pulled out my Merry Christmas Quickutz dies and some scraps from the American Crafts Dear Lizzy line. I then used some Bazzill cardstock along with two of the new Lifestyle Crafts dies -- Branches & Berries, and Holly. I arranged my pieces on the canvas and moved them around until I was pleased with the arrangement, than adhered them.

To finish off my canvas I created berries using Dimensional Pearls, added Stickles to my holly berries, and highlighted the words with my glitter pen.

We hope you have enjoyed the DT's 12 Handmade Gift Ideas for Christmas. Thanks for visiting with us each day We'd love to see some of the fabulous handmade gifts that you have created for your friends and family.

11th Handmade Gift Idea for Christmas brought to us by Tanya

Today I thought I would show you a super quick stocking stuffer. I started with a piece of chipboard (it was a piece I had from packaging and just decided to recylce it) and some computer paper.

cut the computer paper in half and created three little booklets out of them.

I then cut a piece of patterned paper 1.5 inches larger than the chipboard. Make sure you score the chipboard in half before adhering the paper. Fold the sides in and securing it to the chipboard piece.

Cut a few pieces of coordinating paper to cover the inside flaps and then punch holes through the covers and papers. Secure it with ribbon.

Add some ribbon with a loop to hold a pen and finish embellishing as you desire.

Today I'm showing you how I made a paper wreath. It can also work as a picture frame! I used a plain wood frame, a Quickutz scalloped circle die, adhesive, Distress ink, paper and some embellies.

Here we go:

I added some red cardstock, but forgot to photograph it!

Then glue them down. Make sure the FIRST circle you glue down you leave the side that is not under the other circle glue free. You'll see why at the end.

This is why we didn't glue the whole circle down in the beginning.

And here's our finished wreath:

Here's another variation I did a few years ago:

9th Handmade Gift Idea for Christmas brought to you by Shelley

On the 9th day of Christmas I decided to make my teacher's gifts a little early and you can too!!

Here is what you will need

Patterned paper - Basic Grey Jovial
Cardstock-Bazzil
Lifestyle Crafts stocking die
Lifestyle Crafts snowflake die
Lifestyle Crafts Winter Wishes gift set (I used the pocket die for a gift card holder)
treat bags
skewers
ribbon
mug
gift card, I usually give a Chapters or Starbucks
TREATS
(tip: buy extra for yourself because take it from me you will snack on them while creating this craft and you don't want to run out!!!)

Start out by cutting and assembling the stocking

assemble the gift card holder and attach to back of stocking

glue the tip of a skewer and insert it between the pocket and the stocking so the pointy tip is hidden

Now die cut your snowflakes, I cut 3 for each 3 dimensional snowflake and scored a grove down the middle of each to fold in half

Now glue 3 together

glue the tip of a skewer and insert it up the centre of the snowflake

Now fill your treat bags with candy or chocolate or whatever and place in mug. Insert the skewered stocking and snowflakes and tie off the bag. Now tie some ribbon around the handle and one of Vicki's handmade tags, insert a gift card in the cardholder and give to teacher and bask in the praise you will receive!!!

8th Handmade Gift Idea for Christmas brought to you by Heather

For the eighth day of Christmas I decided to create a Welcome banner for the door.

Here is a photo of most of the materials I used:

I also used mini brads to attach the sweaters to the ribbon. I was able to emboss two sweaters at one time, so it went quite quickly.

Here is the completed banner:

Thanks for looking.

7th Handmade Gift Idea for Christmas

Today we have another idea for your holiday gift-giving! This one is brought to us by Tanya!
No matter how early I start or the great lists and intentions I have for my loved ones, I almost always have to resort to a gift card for someone. In order to make them a little more personal however I create a gift card holder in order to make the gift feel more special.
So here is another easy peasy quick idea to show your creativity in your gifts. I created a few different ones to show you some versatility.
I gathered my supplies. Some various papers, stickers, brads and border punches.

For this one, you start with a piece of thicker pp which is 7x4.5 inches. Score the paper at 3 and 6 inches along the width and at 3 inches along the length.

Fold at the scored lines to create a pocket. Seal along the bottom and one side.

Embellish as you desire. I used as border sticker and then pop dotted the saying on the top.

The second one I created was the easiest of all. You will need an old toilet paper roll - that's right, a toilet paper roll. Flatten it and seal the one end. Cover with paper and embellish as desired.

For the third one, cut a piece of double sided pp, 12x7. Score the paper at 6" along the length and at 3 inches along the width.

Once you have scored and folded the paper, you want to cut the left hand side smaller piece. I then scored and folded the remaining smaller piece.

Glue down the sides of the 'pocket'. I inked mine before attaching it.

Embellish the front of the card.

Thanks for checking this out today!!

4th Handmade Gift Idea for Christmas

Today brings us to day number 4 of the DT's fabulous Gift Ideas! This one is brought to us by Heather.......

For the fourth day of Christmas I decided to make a quick little stocking stuffer. I love those little pocket calendars that fit nicely in purses or pockets. They are a great way to keep track of important dates. Unfortunately I rarely ever find one with a picture or pattern that I really like.
The solution? Alter them!!
For this one I chose some of the beautiful new Christmas papers from the American Crafts Dear Lizzy line. I also selected some gorgeous crocheted ribbon from the bulk wall.

I removed the bland plastic cover from the pocket calendar so that I could work with the cardboard covered calendar alone. I inked all of the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Then I cut a front and back cover for the calendar, inking the edges. I selected an element from the paper -- in this example I chose the popcorn strings -- to fussy cut as an accent. Finally I took a length of the ribbon that would wrap completely around the centre of the calendar -- I wanted it to serve as a bookmark so that it will be easy and quick to find the current date on the calendar. I adhered it to the edge, using it as a binding, then loosely tied it at the top.

Now I have a pretty little pocket calendar to add to someone's stocking this Christmas.

By adding some number and letter stickers to the cover the calendar can be more personalized with the year and the recipient's name.
