June Sneak Peeks!

Well, another month has passed by! It is sneak peek time again!! This month the Design Team had kits filled with 3 Bugs in a Rug goodness and a little Bo Bunny thrown in for good measure.
Of course, a new month also means a new Guest Design Team member as well. Please join me in giving a big turtle-y welcome to Shelley Scheeringa (bananagirl to those of you on the forum).

Hello everyone, my name is Shelley Scheeringa aka bananagirl. I am a SAHM and live in Hillsburgh, with my three kids, Monique (13), Hannah (10), Colin (4) & my DH of almost 23 years John. I divide my “stay at home” time volunteering in one of the three different schools my kids attend. I love being able to make a difference in their school experience. In my spare time (ha, ha) I try to squeak in some scrapbooking. I started scrapbooking in 2001 after the owner of a small craft store we had in town came home from a trade show with some goodies to show off. She said to me “this is going to be the next big thing”. She brought in a few papers, scissors, stickers & glue, which I of course bought so I could try it out and I was instantly hooked. Needless to say scrapbooking has come a long way & so has my style (I hardly ever use stickers now!!) I like to look to the internet for inspiration and The Scrapping Turtle has never disappointed me since I found this wonderful pond. I am looking forward to my time as part of the DT & I only hope I can inspire you as I have been inspired by everyone here.

ScrapFest Make & Take

The Friday night VIP make & take at ScrapFest was fantastic!! I know there are some folks who weren't able to make it on Friday but purchased the kit on Saturday. Please note: that this sample varies slightly as I did not have all of the die cuts, etc that were used Friday night so I made due with product from my stash. So, feel free to do the same and make the project your own!!

The following are the products that you will need to complete the project....

Step One: paint the edges of each square with the Aqua paint dabber

Step Two: round the corners of the papers pictured below (a couple are not rounded in the sample but you can choose to round as you wish)

Step Three: use a craft knife to cut out the holes so you will be able to fasten your project together

Step Four: stamp "Spring" and the frame in Aqua Adirondack ink (Stamps are from Imaginesce)

Step Five: use Copic markers to colour the white ribbon to match (YG17 & BG01)

Step Six: assemble pages and embellish as you wish

Mystery Kits!!

Each month the ladies at the store put out a Mystery Kit and just like the name suggests the contents are in fact - a mystery! You never know what you are going to get but that is so part of the fun. Each kit contains coordinating patterned paper & embellishments. Each month the contents are different and the specifics might vary slightly depending on what line is being used. Never doubt though that these little packages of goodness are always fabulous and always well worth the $8.99.

They are available the Sunday of each month and fly off the shelves!! If you want one you must act fast!!

And once you get them, what do you do with it?!?! Well, after the fun of opening it up and checking out the surprise goodies you get to take it home and create. Load your work up to the online gallery between the 21st and 28th of the month for your chance to win a $10 gift certificate to the store. The winner is chosen by a vote of all members of the forum.

With every contest of course comes rules. These are included in your Mystery Kit for your easy reference. The basics are that you are to use your kit to creat a 1 or 2 page layout. You have to use a little bit of everything in the kit and are permitted to add cardstock only. There are a few exceptions to this cardstock rule though - you may add rub-ons or stickers for titlework and you have several free items that you may use to your heart's content (ink, paint, chalk, stitching, doodling).

As an example, here is what was included in the April Mystery Kit.....
And here is what some of our forum members did with it.....

Part of the fun is to see everyone's very different takes on the same product!

Remember, kits are available the last Sunday of the month! There may be a kit or two left for May otherwise pop in later this month and play along for June!!

May Product Highlight - Stix2

This month we are highlighting the always cool STIX2!!

Glitter and beads are always "in" when you are scrapping! Every layout or card could use a little sparkle!

Have a look at the different foil, glitter and bead colors next time you are at the store!

We, your Design Team, are going to help you out by giving you a bunch of different ways to use this fabulous product so you can see the versatility in it.

Dee
I chose to use it on a layout and lately I have a "go big or go home" kinda attitude so I used it ALL! The best thing about this product is a little goes a long way... not only did my project use very little of the actual product, I barely needed anything else on the layout! Big impact!

Regan
I used the Stix with the white foil, such a cool effect, I wanted it to look like paint...VOILA.

Tracey
When I heard Stix2 was going to be our Product Highlight this month I wasn't quite sure. I had never used this before but I jumped in and played and it turns out it was lots of fun! I love this stuff and expect to use it more often! I used micro beads on the 'puddle' chipboard and brown foil on the tips of the butterfly wings.

Mellissa
I have had Stix2 since last years Scrapfest and have not used it much. Actually, I tried to use it and couldnt figure it out, lol....Till now. Once I did it 'properly', I had fun with it. It really was easy to use and the effects are nice. I made a card using my QK flower die and the butterfly die along with the newest Nesting Label. On the butterfly I used the fine glitter. The flowers are the medium glitter and for the flower stem I used the foil.

Anne Marie
I added the stix2 beads to the inside pedels of the chipboard flower.

Pam I used the Stix2 glue to make the dots on the chipboard I painted white, and I used the Stix2 tape to make the lines.

Alright, now it is your turn! We want to see what you can come up with! Join us over at the forum and load your projects up!! Oh, and just in case you need a little extra enticement, for this month only, all the Stix2 products are 15% off. Stop in and get yours today!!

For anyone who purchased the make & take kit from ScrapFest, please know we have not forgotten about you. Pictures & instructions are in the works and will be posted in the next day or two! Sorry about the delay. :)

Today is Sneak Peek Day!

It's the first so that means time for a little teaser at what is to come this month. May at the Turtle is all about babies as the Design Team was playing with baby lines from Prima, American Crafts & Little Yellow Bicycle.

And with the beginning of a new month also means the introduction of a brand new Guest Design Team member. Please help me give a very warm welcome to.....

Hi, I'm Pam D, and I'm super excited to be your GDT member for the month of May. I live in Brantford with my amazing husband of almost 2 years, and our 2 Golden Retreivers and 2 cats. I work full time as an accountant, and we are currently renovating our basement, but I still manage to find time to fit in scrapbooking!

I was first introduced to this wonderful hobby 3 years ago by my husband's boss who thought it would be a good way to display my wedding photos. Since then my style has changed incredibly, and it is still changing! I must say that a lot of that has to do with the Turtle, and the amazing talented ladies here. Like I said, I'm very excited to be a part of the team this month, and to push my limits a little more and "scrap outside my shell"!
_____________

And without further ado, here are the DT projects for this month.

Anne Marie - American Crafts baby collection.

Regan - American Crafts baby collection.

Dee - Little Yellow Bicycle's Baby Safari Boy collection

Mellissa - Little Yellow Bicycle's Baby Safari Girl collection

Tracey - Prima's My Mommy and Me collection

Pam - Prima's My Mommy and Me collection

And with that, we hope we have enticed you enough to pick up some of these fabulous baby lines and get playing. As you can see you don't need to have a brand new baby at home. These little are super cute and versatile.

And don't forget to check us out in the forum on May 15th for the full reveal!!
