it was a hot time in the old town

As you all know we like to keep things exciting in the Mill building in St. Jacobs. Pirate crops, Mardi Gras, Turtle's away sale. But none of our events have created the smoke and heat of yesterdays excitement. Someone found it amusing (don't ask me why) but they started a fire in the washroom. We had to evacuate the building for a few hours. Thankfully no one was hurt, no serious damage was done and NO PAPER WAS DAMAGED IN THIS STUPIDITY. Today you couldn't even smell the smoke. It was interesting. I was trying to figure out the best way to call Hannah at the end of her vacation to tell her the news. We will do our best to keep any future excitement to the paper and adhesive type!!!!

Bev's awesome classes are this Saturday. And then it is June already. WOW time is flying. Crop for the Cure and Allison's crop are both scheduled for June 7th. If you haven't booked a spot for either one of these awesome events that will raise money for a good cause and be full of fun.... run, don't walk to your nearest phone and reserve a spot today.

Still to come in June - some Friday night crops, a sold out QA class, Lisa's awesome "good times" mini book (a new date has been set for June 14th), a sold out SR card class and Crash your Stash. All this before school is out and summer is in full swing. I hope that you will take advantage of some of these opportunities to catch up on your memory keeping!!!

Thanks, Vicki, for two great classes yesterday!!

Yesterday was the day that Vicki Boutin was here teaching two of her great projects. The group in the morning made a round album using the Scenic Route albums. The projects turned out great!! Everyone seemed to have fun creating them and the end results were something to be proud of. As an added bonus, the ladies learned about Stix2. Vicki showed them how to foil and gave them pointers, though that wasn't part of the class project for the morning. Then there was a bit of a break before Vicki went to work teaching two Grafton layouts. Sanding, foiling, lots of information sharing ... a really good afternoon. Of course, I was just observing. A sunny Saturday in St. Jacobs means a busy day for us here but we aren't complaining.

Vicki is coming back in September with some new classes and techniques. Watch the calendar for details!

Of course, Vicki isn't the only person teaching here at the Turtle. This week is full of classes. Monday Night is Lori's Crash your Stash. She always has wonderful, creative projects to help use up some of the product you have just looking pretty at home. Come play with us and use some of that Stash!! Later this week Lisa is teaching a great "Good Times" mini book class using the Birdie Bits paper from Dream Street. A very colourful album with a variety of page sizes. We have it on the counter so check it out if you get a chance. Then, on Saturday, Bev has two more amazing classes (do you expect anything less?). Saturday morning's Butterfly card class is sold out. In the afternoon she will be teaching a Bingo Board book where one of the techniques to be learned is colouring your black and white photos. We are hoping that more product will arrive early this week so we can give more of you the opportunity to take this class.

That will round out our May, with many more events to come through the summer. There's never a dull moment around here.

Oh, the richness of it all

While we are still trying to find homes for all of the new product that arrived in those boxes last week I thought I would share a few more new arrivals. Since I'm even at work as I add this post, I can show you what they look like too!

So, you know that we received boxes from Bazzill. In those boxes were the new Birthstones Bling cardstock. The colours are rich and shiny and though they don't have a home yet, some people are enjoying it already.
And that was just the start of it! We also received the new "Wedding White" cardstock. Three beautiful white cardstocks with a much more subtle finish than the regular textures. The butterflies are so PRETTY!! They are embossed into the paper. The pinstripe one is white on white, and the third is the satin finish. Maybe I'll have to get some of that and work on my wedding album again for a bit.

We also received our Bazzill flowers and chipboard. Lots of new colours of flowers, and in four sizes, from 1" to 4", so they will work on any project. If you're a fan of chipboard, you'll love all the shapes we have now.

I better go get more of this new stuff up on the site.
Don't forget tomorrow is World Turtle Day (and you can get twice the turtle stamps for your money).

We're in a "Stix"y Situation

We now have a large selection of Stix2 in stock. Not only the PVA glue, but we have lots of shiny foil and glitter and beads. We have rolls of double-sided tape and sheets you can cut shapes from before making them all shiny.

That is just the tip of the pond. If you swim deeper you will discover these new albums we got in. We all know how hard it is sometimes to decide which photos to include in the album and which to exclude...they're all so good. Well, the new Lickety Slip albums from Bazzill help solve that problem. These 12" x 12" binders come covered with Bazzill cardstock, ready to alter. There are also 16 protectors inside. Four of these are 12" pages, ready for layouts, while 12 have 5 pockets measuring 4" x 6" each. You can create "mini layouts" using these or just add the extra photos from the event or trip. The albums also come with 12 4" x 6" pieces of Bazzill cardstock that coordinates with the cover.

Just in time for holiday trips, we've now got the new line by Teresa Collins that is filled with maps and little journal cards to make creating that vacation project even easier. The new cling-mount stamps are also part of this travel theme. You're going to love them!!

I've got lots to get onto the website - so watch for it ... or even better, stop by and see us!!

Turtles are swimming on their own!!!

Hannah has left the pond, so Teresa, Bev and I are swimming on our own this week. (Can't jump for joy too much - you never know when she might check in). You might just want to check on us from time to time to make sure we aren't having too much fun. It was a great weekend - we had croppers at the store Friday night (very late) and all day Saturday. It was a fun day. There were even some little turtles cropping and that is always great to see. They have no inhibitions and just get it done. It was an awesome day.

We moved some things around and got some more new products out. Of course when new stuff comes in other stuff has to go out. So we are having a "Turtle has left the pond sale". Check out the savings - BUY TWO GET ONE FREE on:
  • Quickutz dies - excluding the new 12" platforms
  • Stamps - includes some that were already on sale, but excludes Tim Holtz and Teresa Collins stamps
  • Thickers (we have new ones- sparkley ones!!!!
  • American Crafts - ribbons, rub ons, townhouse shapes, brads and other metal
This Friday - May 23rd is World Turtle Day. In celebration of what we feel should be a International Holiday we will be offering DOUBLE TURTLE STAMPS on all qualifying purchases.

There are lots of other things happening over the next few weeks. Check the calendar and the newsletter for details.

and one last note on this May long weekend.... the store will be open on Monday May 19th - so since you can't buy groceries or go to the mall - you might as well come see us.... the crop room will be open too

And after a long delay the Platforms have arrived!!!

Hannah and Lori tried to chase them down this week and the three boxes containing the long-awaited 12" platforms and border dies arrived yesterday when both of them were off. That meant that I got to go through the box and see how nice they all are ... but not tell anyone (at least right away) because we had to wait for Hannah to get them into the system. What good is having them and saying that we have them and then telling you "Sorry, you can't buy them but you can look at them". That wouldn't be very nice of us, now would it? Lori made a special trip in so she could pick one up to play with for QA this weekend. Watch for her project to hit the wall display this Saturday.

On another note, thanks to everyone who came out to play with us on Friday night for the QuicKutz Gift Set party. It was a trip around the world without leaving the store. Then it was a quick change of setting for our Mardi Gras crop the next day. Again, thank you to everyone who came out to share National Scrapbook Day with us, either by cropping or just stopping in. It was a great, if long, day. Pictures of these events will follow. I didn't take them so I don't have them here.

Another weekend approaches. Here's hoping for sunshine. Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms out there - of kids or furkids or SOs who behave like kids.
